Information about Asthma
Asthma is characterized by coughing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and wheezing. Asthma symptoms can be triggered by several factors, including: allergens or irritants; v iral or sinus infections; exercise; reflux disease (stomach acid flowing back up the esophagus); medications or foods; and emotional anxiety. The Bus was created by 'The Bus' from the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jerome Bettis. This organization provides information about asthma to individuals who suffer from the breathing disorder as well as their friends and family. Jerome Bettis knows quite a bit about the condition because he suffers from the troublesome respiratory problem himself.
Sports Activity with Asthma
You would never guess that by watching him in action on the football field. Jerome Bettis got the nickname 'The Bus' because of his amazing strength and power on the offensive line. He could drive through any defensive line given the right conditions. He successfully performed for the Pittsburgh Steelers accompanying them to the Super Bowl victory in January 2006. Who better to get information about asthma from than this sports hero?Considering that this breathing disorder affects millions of people across the globe, the Asthma Bus is an excellent cause. People of all ages find that gaining as much information about asthma as possible is helpful in the treatment and control of the breathing disorder. Fortunately this organization is driven, if you will excuse the pun, to provide as much information about asthma as possible to the general community.
The organization works in another way as well. Many people who suffer from the respiratory disorder tend to avoid activities that involve an accelerated heart rate because these activities make the individual 'out of breath' and sometimes this feeling can be confused with a mild attack. My sister is not a big fan of football but she did find a lot of useful information about asthma from Jerome Bettis' Asthma Bus organization. She decided to embrace a more active lifestyle which included quitting smoking. Walking is her new habit. Ironically, before she found this information about asthma she had an easier time smoking than she did walking. Fortunately, her life has been turned around.

Asthma Tip
Correct Inhaler Use - If you use an inhaler to treat your asthma, remember that it's not a breath freshener. You must deeply inhale the medication into your lungs and hold it for three to five seconds before exhaling slowly.
