Lyme Disease Treatment

Are you the outdoors type? Maybe camping in the deep woods or hiking through the mountains is your thing. There's certainly nothing wrong with this. I too enjoy the outdoors myself. I love a good weekend camping trip in the fall or a nice rock climb when the temperatures are moderate. However, with the outdoors comes great responsibility. This especially goes for the summer months. With all the insects flourishing throughout the woods, it can be difficult to avoid a few interactions. There might even be some bites.

Although you might consider a bug bite rather harmless in general, there are a few that can lead to bigger problems. For example, what about lyme disease? Do you know where it comes from or what symptoms to look for? Chances are, you might not even know if you're bit. Fortunately there is lyme disease treatment if you are.

What do you know about lyme disease treatment?

Well, since I have had this before, let me tell you how it went for me. I initially found a deer tick on my body, which was certainly by chance or luck, since they're about the size of a pin head. At the time I was in high school, so I showed it to my father. Being a Game Warden, he jumped right on it. He immediately had the deer tick tested for lyme disease. Since it was a slight process, our family doctor went ahead and put me on an antibiotic. This was the lyme disease treatment, and it came in the form of a pill. I believe I took three each day for seven days. It turned out the deer tick was not infected with lyme disease, but I was certainly up for being safe rather than sorry. The key is knowing what to look for.

Typically if you are bitten by a tick that carries the lyme disease virus, a rash will appear around the spot where you were bitten. This rash can spread 5 to eight inches out. It's imperative to seek treatment early on so no permanent damage occurs. However, the rash can take 3 to 30 days to appear after bitten. Once you spot it, get medical assistance.
